This was released in 1973 by a British “glam rock” band. Despite it’s popularity, it has never reached higher than number four which is where it stayed for four weeks in a row. The backing vocals of this track are by the Suedettes and also the choir of Stockland Green Bilateral School First Year. The track was created in August, and the air conditioning was turned right down to it’s coldest setting, then the set was decorated to have the Christmas feel to it. The lead singer is wearing a woolly hat that he found in “lost property”. At the Top of the Pops set, the lead singer had arranged for the Stockland Green school choir to come down to London from the Midlands, but the producers of Top Of The Pops decided to use children from a local London Stage School. It was re-released in 1981 where it reached number 41, 2008 – number 31, 2009 – number 45, 2010 – number 46, 2011 – number 28 and 2012 where it reached number 29.
