A Dog’s Purpose?

There is a film coming up this year called A Dog’s Purpose. When films with animals are made, they are done with people there to make sure the animals are not harmed or distressed in any way.

Do they mean physical harm or mental harm? Some film-makers will force their animals to do something they don’t want to. Some animals are put into a distressed position and forced to do something they are scared of.

Would we do that with a child? Would we force a five or six-year-old to do something they were terrified of?

Why do some film-makers think it is okay to do it to the animals. Then say no animal was harmed because no limbs broke. That animal may well be terrified of the position it was put in, and not go anywhere near that again, or even wet itself because of the terror it faced.

No animal should be harmed mentally or physically when put in a film. Use CGI if necessary. There are companies who can do that.

Five Years And A Day Later

Five years ago yesterday, I heard the devastating news that one of my favourite icons had died. No, I am not talking about Jackson. I am talking about the Angel Heaven gained on June 25th 2009. I adored both the woman and her name so much that my daughter was given the same name.

In 2006, she was diagnosed with cancer, a strain that is not often heard of. She had Anal Cancer, and underwent chemotherapy, then not long after her 60th birthday, a press release said she was cancer free, and I was so happy at this news. She has been an icon of mine since I saw her in Charlie’s Angels in 1976.

The following year, Farrah Fawcett was diagnosed with a malignant polyp, so she travelled to Germany in an attempt to challenge the disease, and also to try to remove liver cancer. In 2009, she returned home to spend her last days with her long-time partner, Ryan O’Neal, and her son was allowed out of prison to see her, although he was still shackled.

Farrah Fawcett lost her fight against cancer at 09:28 on June 25th 2009. I was at a friend’s house at the time and I was stunned at the news. This was overshadowed later by the news of another death, but I will always remember June 25th 2009 for the death of one of my favourite TV and film actresses.

I’ve Been Tagged

Tazein from Transcending Borders Blog has tagged me. The idea is to answer eleven questions set by her and then ask more questions to eleven others.

1. What is your earliest childhood memory?
When I was four years old and the flat I was living in was on fire. I remember my dad carrying me downstairs and seeing the flames in the living room. We were taken into the neighbour below’s house where my mum and the neighbour were throwing bowls of water up at the ceiling where the flames were coming through.

2. From where do you get inspiration for your writings?
It depends. They can come from anywhere. The first one I had came from Christina at ReconstructinChristina. After that, it could be anything. A look, a word, a sight, a smell.

3. Are you content and at peace with yourself?
I am now 🙂 I wasn’t for a long time, but a friend has helped me to see who I truly am.

4. Which is your favourite movie?
I have so many that I really like. I can’t say I have a favourite. I do like the Star Wars films. I also like the Lord of the Rings films.

5. What is the one thing you wish to achieve in life?
To live as long as possible 😉

6. Are you a believer in God?
I used to be an agnostic, but things have happened recently that have made me realise that there is.

7. How do you pull yourself out of sadness?
It can take a while, but I have a friend that helps me.

8. Which is your favourite place to visit?
I liked Stoney Cove when I used to live in Leicester.

9. Do you have a family, that is are you married with kids or single?
I am divorced and I have my kids. They live with me and go to see their mum on occasion.

10. Do you cry easily or keep it bottled up?
It depends on what it is. There are some things that will bottle up, but other things that escape.

11. Are you self- confident, ready to take on the world?
No I’m not. I may seem so on here, but in person, I am nervous and shy around people.

Okay. My questions are:

1. Do you prefer ridged crisps (potato chips) or flat ones?
2. What was the last music band you went to see live?
3. Do you prefer tea, coffee, hot chocolate or something stronger?
4. How many siblings do you have?
5. What was the last film you saw at the movies?
6. Is there any sports that you like to participate in?
7. What is your favourite flower?
8. Is there anything you like to collect?
9. Have you visited another country?
10. Do you have any pets?
11. What is your favourite food?

Years ago I used to collect MAD Magazine. The one with the boy on the front with the missing front tooth. Well, I have been thinking of that lately, and there is one issue that I quote bits from as it is so funny. It was from 1983, and the main story was “Rehash of the Yeti” – a reworking of “Return of the Jedi“. Here are some of the quotes:

[Lando against the Death Star] “Damn this is a Mickey Mouse operation” with Mickey Mouse sitting in co-pilots seat instead of Nien Nunb.

[Lando against the Death Star] “The only thing we aren’t throwing against them is the kitchen sink …. oh there it is”

Luke: You are my sister
Leia: I know and R2 is my Barstool, and Chewie is my rug, and Han is my distant cousin five times removed

Yoda: When 900 years old you reach, talk as good you will not

And my personal favourite:

Luke: Yoda, I need to know; is Darth Vader my father?
Yoda: One of your parents he is, your mother he’s not
