Picture It and Write: Relax

Ermilia hosts “Picture It and Write” which is where a photo is used as a prompt for whatever you to use it for. Whether that is a paper plane, a hat, a brooch, a poem or a story. When posting, please link back to Ermilia so that other people can read your contributions.

RELAX

I knew going to the sea would ease me. The witch doctor had told me so. All I had to do was walk into the sea, relax and let nature take care of the rest. I Made it into the sea and used my arms to pull myself out into the depths. I was scared. I am a man who is used to being in as much control as I can be.

Suddenly, I felt myself being pulled. I was now moving and I was doing nothing. I used my arms to try flapping myself backwards, but I kept going forwards. A thought entered my head.

Stop! Don’t fight. Relax!

I obeyed even though every part of me screamed not to listen. Then something odd happened. I felt. I looked down and saw nothing. Something was pulling on my toes. This was impossible! I swung my leg and almost cried out as I felt resistance from the water. I turned and I swam back to the shore and walked up the beach. The crowd watched me in stunned silence.

I picked up my artificial legs and threw them. I wouldn’t need them any longer …

I am running a Photo Fiction on my other blog,  The idea is to use a photo that I have taken as a photo prompt to tell a flash fiction story in around 150 words. You don’t have to use the whole amount, and it doesn’t matter if you go over. The number is there as a guideline.

This story started in Invasion.

DESTRUCTION

A raven arrived with a pictonote* asking for anyone of fighting age to meet, as the people from Earth had to be thrown off their planet. Now, as Daniel and Alexei were heading into town, they were being careful as the enemy were flying all over looking for targets. They didn’t care who they hit. Daniel wondered why the Earthers didn’t just want to be friends. They could have learnt so much. He was curious as to how they managed though with only two arms.

As they reached the town, Daniel and Alexei dived into a bush as the sounds of flying vehicles closed and went overhead. Three screamed through and fired their destruction sticks. Another building to burst into flames; it was the building they were all supposed to meet in.

Daniel stood up on all three legs. The town was on fire. Now, there didn’t seem any way they could be defeated.

*For the sake of this story, and the planet it is on, a pictonote is like a pictogram but written on paper. Very much like the Egyptian form of writing.
