There are plaques everywhere in our town. History around every corner. One of the biggest “Roads of History” is a set of plaques, or paving slabs, which go up to and around the bandstand. Each slab tells a piece of history of the town. I have decided to use the earliest recorded one. A slab with the date 120 AD – Two Roman Pharos Lighthouses Built, and behind it 200 AD – Roman Painted House Built. The Pharos is still there, as is the Roman Painted House. Although that is kept undercover in a museum now.

August Daily Photo Challenge – August 10th – Dover Landmarks
There are many landmarks that I could have chosen for this challenge. Dover is almost two thousand years old. It may actually be over that. One of the most well known landmarks is the castle. I did take several photos of that, but in the end, I changed my mind and went for the ruins of St James Church. It was broken a couple of hundred years ago, but it still has character to it.
August Daily Photo Challenge – August 9th – Your Nearest Lamp Post
This was definitely one of the easiest subjects. Open the back door and there is a lamp post full of history and with a lot of tales to tell. As this road is over two hundred years old, the lamp posts will have seen a lot. A pity they are no longer gas-fired. Although Duncan from Nobody’s Reading Me has said that there are some in a town near me that may still be gas powered, so I may go and have a look in the next few weeks.
