I’m late again with this. The new one is already out, but I had sorted the photos I wanted to use for Ailsa’s Travel Theme: Contrast. I will attempt to post the new one before next week.

Still Trying to Figure Things Out
Ha! I’m ALWAYS late. I’m glad I’m not alone. Great Contract. Now for some Light! 😉
😀 Yeah I’m going to try and get that one done before Friday. Thank you Gemma
I love the overlapping flowers, their shapes are fascinating and the dark background really brings them out. I wonder if Henry had s many crowns as wives, for when he changed the crowns he would in a way beheading them too.
Thank you. Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep the orchids alive much. I’ve given up on them now. They are my favourite plant, but, alas, they don’t survive long.
I can just imagine “King Henry needs a new crown!” Catherine of Aragon mutters “oh crap!”
Haha, the only thing that puts me off old Henry vee aye aye aye, aside from the chopping(!) and changing of wives, was Wolf Hall, ot sure where all the good hype for that came from.
It does amaze me sometimes when books receive awards that you can’t see how they managed it.
There was a book, many years ago .. 1983 .. written by James Kahn, and six or seven times during that book he uses the phrase “all at once”. Even at sixteen I knew that should have been phrased better. He used the words “got” and “put” a great deal as well. Even in my flash fiction, and I am no writer, I will avoid those two words. Mr Smith, my old English Teacher, use to tell us that if we put got in a story then we’ll get put into detention.Always stuck with me, and I stopped my kids from using it in their homework too
it’s amazing the things that stick with us for life. I had never considered words like ‘put’ and ‘got’ before, I always avoid ‘good’ and ‘nice’ unless I am being facetious.
I think I have heard of that book and refused on principle to read it as it sounded to similar to 1984, I’m glad I didn’t now. Most modern bestsellers are to over hyped…except for any new Irene Nemirovsky book.
I don’t tend to go for the hype. I find that the professional reviewers lack the variety necessary to say what is really good. Either that or they are paid to give a good review. I prefer to read the back.
Exactly! They all seem to be from the same publishing house when they review or are returning a favour, not that the reading public needs to know of this of course. I will read the back and then check out the WordPress reviews, much less of an agenda there.
I always tended to ask a couple of my friends. One is into science fiction, and the other is into fantasy. That’s the Orcs and Goblins type of fantasy
Better to ask people you can gauge there likes of, indeed, fantasy and sci fi have become unloved by me simply because I don’t get grabbed anymore but i need to remedy this, if only to round out my reviews.
I have been reading Star Wars books for the past few years, but I need to get out of that and into the more adult for a while. I did try and have a go at reading the Twilight books, bit I think I would rather choke on my own snot balls than attempt to get any further with them.
I did buy some other fantasy books and got one from a friend (the one who reads fantasy) a couple of years ago and I’ve never read it.
Arthur C. Clarke’s Odysseys, well the first two at least are stunning, as is the first Rama book but if you are after some good old satire from world war I then Catch 22 is the phenomenally wonderful book for you!
Thanks for that. Will see what is available for the kindle.
I accidentally closed this as I went to write those titles down
Such is life.
When anyone wrote “all of a sudden”, our English teacher always said, “There is no such thing as ‘half of a sudden’, therefore thee is no such thing as ‘all of a sudden’. The word is suddenly.” I’ve never forgotten in more than half a century 🙂
As Ste J said – it’s amazing what we remember. I like that. “There’s no such thing as ‘half of a sudden’ ”
I love the white and purples. they are beautiful!
Thanks Terry 🙂
I want to play kings and queens! Lol
Did the like button work for me? Hugs Paula. Xx
😆 No it didn’t . Doesn’t matter though 😉
