This was released as a single in 1985, and then included on an album the following year. It is speculation as to where the inspiration for the track came from. It’s been suggested that it may have been from the show stopping performance at Live Aid in 1985, and also suggested that it was inspired by Martin Luther King with the lyrics talking about a man battling and beating the odds. In 2011, one of the surviving band members admitted that some of the lyrics were “sort of half nicked from his famous speech”. There are heavily distorted vocals at the beginning and the end of the track – which you can see on the lyrics version. The humorous end to the track was put in – and left in – because the lead singer was becoming agitated that nothing was working. The track has been used in the film Iron Eagle, the game Grand Theft Auto IV, was used as the official song of Rotherham United FC for 2008-2009 and is available for download with Rock Band 3.
