This power ballad was released in 1988, came from the band’s second album and was their only number one hit. It reached number one on Christmas Eve and stayed there for three weeks. It reached number 11 in the Mainstream Rock Charts, number 13 in the UK and was placed number 34 of VH1’s “100 Greatest Songs of the 80’s”, number 100 on their “Top 100 Love Songs” (at least it got there) and on MTV and VH1’s “Top 25 Power Ballads” it reached number seven. This song is unusual as it has a Country feel to it which doesn’t normally happen in Power Ballads. The song writer said that the inspiration came to him when he sitting in a laundromat and phoned his girlfriend, and a male voice was in the background. He was so devastated, he wrote this song. The track has been used in The Simpsons, Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigilo, Neighbours (when Bouncer was run over), South Park, Cold Case, Supernatural, Band Hero, Cop Out, Rock of Ages and is available to download on Rock Band 3. Miley Cyrus has done a cover of it, with the lead of this band sing backup vocals to her.

  1. I just listened and got full goose bumples…reliving so many memories from when this song was just released. Poison was/is so good, and I definitely miss the big-haired 80’s. You are consummate dee-jay, A!
