I was chatting to a very good friend this morning and I had the idea of using this as my music of the day. It was released in 1996 .. two weeks before my son was born. This was released as a single in only three countries – Australia, New Zealand and France, but a music video was released to music channels like VH1 and MTV, it had worldwide airplay. It was released as a radio single in the USA and reached number 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay. This track is considered a fan-favourite, and also a favourite of a lot of non-fans. In 2005 the writer said that he wasn’t sure what the song was about as he was high a the time of writing it. In 2009 he went on to say that one line in the song will have a different meaning to every person who listens to the song. “Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball”
I also love this song! For me, it’s not so often the words or the thought behind the meaning of a song (any song), I just like the music, the rhythm, especially the base and drums. It’s the beat that moves me. Oasis could’ve put Christian lyrics to that song and I wouldn’t have loved it any less/more.
I get what you’re saying. To me, though, I have to find the words make sense enough to sing along. Some songs don’t make sense but I still like them. “Bye Bye Beautiful” by Nightwish is a perfect example:
Finally the hills are without eyes
They are tired of painting a dead man’s face
red with their own blood
“American Pie” never made sense to me, but I still like the song. Yes, it def adds to the enjoyment if it makes sense, but it’s not a prerequisite. 🙂
True
How strange it told me the video clip was banned in our country! First time i’ve come across that! Hugs Paula x

Great song choice.
Thank you
One of my favourites!
I like this one too. Even though I am not a fan of Oasis as people, I do like some of their music though
