Lovers Fate

loveknowsnodistance

Love is where the heart is
Love is where there is joy
Love is where the soul is
Love between girl and boy

He gives to her his heart
He offers it as a token
He tells her to look after it
And try to not let it be broken

She takes with a flutter
Like a churning deep inside
He tells her not to show it
For now, their love must hide

Right now to see each other
They need plane, train, bike and car
How could they fall for each other
When the distance is so very far

They rarely see each other
The distance is too great
Maybe they are not to be lovers
It could be that’s their fate

They will always have their Paris
They will always have their Rome
They will always see each other
On webcam when they’re home

Their love, it is so strong though01
Special friends is what they’ll be
They will always love each other
From now to eternity

  1. So happy to see a poem by you back on here!! You write beautifully and this is so heartfelt and you can fell the longing.

  2. As my partner and I started our relationship while each of us was living on a different continent I can relate to this poem a lot – and looking at my own story I have great hope for the two lovers in the poem that they find a way beyond “skype and travel issues”. 🙂

Thanks a lot for sharing this, Alastair!

      • He lived in Arizona/ USA at that time (coming from Illinois) and I lived in Hamburg/ Germany, where we both are currently located, too.

Actually we met on the internet while frequenting the same forum – one where people would talk and discuss about ways to approach live in awareness and sustainability (and similar things).

At some point he would visit me in Germany and then we took a leap of faith (also financially) when short after he would move in at my flat. It was worth the risk for us as we are enjoying our life together, now.

Due to residency and travel issues we lived in Ireland (Dublin) for three months, too – which had not been planned, yet was a great adventure (and as we were “out and about” took another month to travel the UK a bit).

After working on it since October 2011, today, my partner finally received his residence permit which is a true reason to celebrate for us! (Although we had to get up at 3AM, this morning, to get to the aliens departement in time – so we are celebrating more “on the inside”, *grinning*)

For us it seems to take the courage to live in the “now” instead of worrying too much about “tomorrow”. I am just learning to trust on how (often unexpected) doors open when you follow your heart. And all in all it is a very rewarding journey. 🙂

        So, yes: You never know!

(If somebody had asked me in January 2011 where I would stand, two years later, I would not have known what actually lies ahead.)

  3. I’m falling in love all over again with this poem, beautiful! You took back to my university days with my boyfriend (now my hubby) thanks for sharing Alastair!
