This track comes from a stage musical written by Don Black, Charles Hart and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is based on a novella of the same name written by David Garnett. Lloyd Webber was introduced to this in 1979 when he and Tim Rice were asked to write a few songs for the film version which never materialised. So he suggested that Trevor Nunn collaborate with him on a stage production. The show opened in the London West End on April 17 1989 and ran for 1,325 shows. The original cast included Kevin Colson, Ann Crumb, Michael Ball, Kathleen Rowe McAllen and Diana Morrison. Sarah Brightman, Barrie Ingham and Michael Praed also starred when the runs of the original cast ended. The Broadway version flopped after less than a year and a loss of $8 million. This song is the one that is most famous from the musical. The musical is Aspects of Love.

Ooops Andrew Lloyd Webber :p
I left that on the last one as this came through before I commented 😉
Such a beautiful song 🙂 always one of my faves by Tim Rice … Sad that the show flopped but then it left such a beautiful piece of music 🙂
It is 🙂
I haven’t seen it and don’t know much about it .. Have heard the song . I actually like it at least how it sounds … maybe I should listen to the lyrics ..
What you did point out tho ‘ Alistair was really interesting … I had no idea that it was based on a novel by Bunny Garnett … fascinating … must dig into that .
It’s amazing some of things I find out when I have a look into the history of a song.
He has such a lofty and noble delivery…or maybe that’s just the lyrics…Hard to believe it flopped on Broadway. Very pretty, Alastair. 🙂
I know. It has done a world tour though and done well.
If you have ever been in an symphony orchestra you would CRINGE when you got handed ANYTHING from Andrew Lloyd Webber. He is the WORST composer… Like EVER!!! He hardly knows how to write for an orchestra. His songwriting however is clever. And he dreams big that’s for sore!
I think Webber tends to be the lyricist and Tim Rice the composer (I think)
I don’t know all my music said Webber… no Rice it was the most boring 2 hours of my life… it’s worse than Beethoven.
That’s saying something. LOL
I know you’d think being a part of a play like that would be fun… I was watching most of it!!! LOL
The joys … the JOYS(!) … the sarcasm hehe
