New glasses

The kids and I all got new glasses this month. they both went for designer glasses. My daughter decided on Bench glasses, and my son went for Red Or Dead glasses. Both of the kids look fantastic in them. One of the women who work in the opticians must be on a drive for extra money or something. When my son came out of his sight test, the assistant spoke to my sister as I was having my eyes done at the time, and suggested that he have a coating on the lenses, when my sister asked how much, she said £40, so my sister – knowing what my response would be – said no. Then when my daughter had her test, the same woman suggested that the lenses be thinned to fit the frames properly. The price of which would be … £40! So it was no to that as well. I was already paying more for the frames than the NHS voucher would cover.

I now feel old as I was asked if I wanted a pair of normal glasses and a pair of reading glasses, or a pair of varifocals. Thankfully I had a different assistant who’s aim was to have people pay as little as possible. She suggested two pairs as varifocals have a lot less cover on the NHS voucher than standard glasses. So I had reactions on my standard set, and my reading glasses are standard. Altogether, the price for four pairs of glasses was £69.80 which I was impressed with. At least we aren’t suffering from headaches so much now, and I will be getting back to my books soon.

  1. That’s quite impressive, considering my newest pair; bought with an HNS voucher before I started work again, were £65 by themselves. That was with 2 coatings and a slight thinning; going the whole hog with the thinning would’ve ended costing about £140.

    • £140 is an incredible amount. Most of the time people don’t notice the thickness of the lens unless it is one of them pairs that is the arms attached to the lens. £65 for two coats and a bit of thinning is awesome though. I could really only afford one coat so had the choice between anti glare and reactions.
